Nuolo

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 28, 2026

This policy explains what information the Nuolo mobile app (“Nuolo”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Nuolo is part of Nostalgy and is operated by Andrés Ballen, an individual based in the United States.

In short: we use your location only while the app is open, to find places near you. We don’t sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps. Usage analytics can be turned off at any time in Settings. You can use Nuolo without an account, and you can delete your account from the app.

Information we collect

If you use Nuolo without an account (guest)

When you first open Nuolo, we create an anonymous guest profile so you can try the app right away. To run the free guides and prevent abuse, the app creates a random identifier for your installation. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it on our servers. On iPhone this identifier is kept in the device’s secure keychain, so it can survive reinstalling the app.

If you create an account

  • Account details: your email address and password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), and your name if you give it. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, they share your name and email (or a private relay address) with us.
  • Preferences: settings such as narration language, guide length and the topics you like.

Information collected when you use Nuolo

  • Location. With your permission, Nuolo uses your device’s location only while the app is open — never in the background. It is used to show the map and places near you. When you search the map, our server sends the map area to Google to find places; results are cached for about 24 hours by a rounded map area, not linked to you. We do not send your location to the AI that writes guides, and we don’t keep a history of your location. You can choose a lower precision (about 100 m or about 1 km), or turn location off, in Settings → Privacy.
  • Guide activity. When you generate a guide we record the place, the language, whether it worked, how long it took and technical measurements such as AI token counts and whether a cached copy was used. These records are deleted after 90 days.
  • Free guides, credits and purchases. How many free guides you’ve used, your credits, subscription status and purchase history.
  • Feedback. If you rate a guide or answer our short in-app survey, we store your rating, the reasons you pick and any comment, linked to your profile.
  • Messages you send us when you contact support.

Usage analytics and crash reports

We use PostHog to understand how Nuolo is used and to find bugs.

  • What is collected: app usage events (for example screens viewed, guides started or completed, and the places you tap, as Google place identifiers), your settings, device type, operating system, app version, a random installation ID and your account ID. We do not send your email, name or precise location. PostHog may use your IP address to estimate your country.
  • Crash reports: if the app crashes we send a technical report (the error, device OS, app version and a random installation ID). Location and email are removed from it.
  • Screen recordings (session replay): if analytics are on, we may record a small share of app sessions as a masked screen recording to find bugs and confusing screens. Text fields and images are hidden; other text on screen, such as place names, may be visible.
  • Your choice: if your phone is set to a region in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics stay off unless you tap Allow anonymous usage data on the welcome screen. Elsewhere, analytics are on when you tap Get started, and the welcome screen tells you so. Anywhere, you can turn them off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage analytics. When analytics are off, usage events, screen recordings and crash reports are not sent.

Information stored only on your device

Recent searches, map settings, downloaded audio and the text of recent guides stay on your phone. Downloaded audio and saved guide text are removed automatically after 14 days. If you enable Face ID, your sign-in session is kept in the device’s secure storage; your password is never stored.

What we don’t collect

We don’t use your microphone or contacts, we don’t use advertising identifiers, and we don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

How we use information

  • To provide Nuolo: find nearby places, write and narrate guides in your language, and remember your preferences.
  • To manage guest profiles and accounts, free guides, credits and subscriptions.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse (for example, limiting free guides per device and the security check on sign-in forms).
  • To fix bugs and improve the app, using crash reports, analytics and feedback.
  • To answer your support requests.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Service providers we use

These providers process data on our behalf, only to run Nuolo.

Provider What it does Data involved
Supabase Accounts, database, file storage and server functions Profile, preferences, guide activity, feedback, purchase records, hashed device ID
Anthropic (Claude) Writes the text of each guide Place name and address, language and guide style. Never your location, name or email.

Cloudflare Turnstile Protects sign-in and sign-up forms from bots Browser and device signals during the check

How long we keep information

  • Profile, preferences and feedback: until you delete your account.
  • Guide activity records: 90 days.
  • Map search cache: about 24 hours.
  • Narration audio on our servers: about 30 days, except for pre-made guides of popular places. Guide texts and audio are stored per place, not per person, so they don’t identify you.
  • Purchase and refund records: kept as long as needed for accounting, tax, refunds and chargebacks, including after you delete your account.
  • Hashed device ID: kept to enforce the free-guide limit, including after you delete your account.
  • Analytics, crash reports and recordings: kept by PostHog for the retention period of our plan, then deleted.

Your choices and rights

  • Location: change precision or turn it off in Settings → Privacy, or in your phone’s settings.
  • Analytics: turn it on or off at any time in Settings → Privacy.
  • Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.
  • Access, correction or a copy of your data: email privacy@nostalgy.dev from the address linked to your account. We will respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live (for example California, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), you may have additional rights, such as objecting to certain processing or filing a complaint with your local data protection authority. We will honor these requests as required by law and won’t treat you differently for using them.

Where your data is processed

Nuolo is operated from the United States, and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. When we transfer data internationally, we rely on our providers’ standard contractual safeguards.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to our systems is restricted, and server functions verify who you are before acting on your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects you as required by law.

Children

Nuolo is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the date above and let you know in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
